The war pitted Francis I of France and the Republic of Venice against the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, Henry VIII of England, and the Papal States. The conflict arose from animosity over the election of Charles as Emperor in 1519–20 and from Pope Leo X's need to ally with Charles against Martin Luther. The war broke out across western Europe late in 1521 when the French invaded Navarre and the Low Countries. Imperial forces overcame the invasion and attacked northern France, where they were stopped in turn. The Pope, the Emperor, and Henry VIII then signed a formal alliance against France, and hostilities began on the Italian peninsula. At the Battle of Bicocca, Imperial and Papal forces defeated the French, driving them from Lombardy. Following the battle, fighting again spilled onto French soil, while Venice made a separate peace. The English invaded France in 1523. A French attempt to regain Lombardy in 1524 failed and provided Bourbon with an opportunity to invade Provence at the head of a Spanish army. Francis himself led a second attack on Milan in 1525. (more...) Recently featured: Dr Pepper Ballpark – Mysore – William Barley Archive – By email – More featured articles...From Wikipedia under the

Does the Governments insistence to switch TV posses possible a more dastardly intent? Asked by mike l - Mon Feb 18 20:21:19 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. The switch enables broadcasters to deliver a better product to their consumers and leaves the old spectrum open to a variety of other uses some of which, I assume, may be lawfulnational security or military purposes. What dastardly intent do you imagine? And why would it depend upon a spectrum shift for the government to realize it? Please be specific. Former Surgeon General Dr. Richard Carmona has complained about having his speeches edited. He could not talk openly about embryonic stem cell reseach. He was not allowed to speak before a Special Olympics group because of their Democratic Party leaning. He was told that every page of his speeches had to mention the President at least three times. George Bush is the furtherest thing from a Conservative. He entered office claiming to be a Conservative but has done nothing but betray that statement. True Conservatives are for small government; Bush has increased the size of government; Conservativesare for decreasing government spanding, Bush increased spending; Conversative are for small business, Bush is not; Everything that Conservatives believe in has been thrown back in the faces of those who believed in him as a Conservative. I voted for him twice as did many of my friends, now we are ashamed that we did. I do not think a Democrat would have been the answer, so I do not know what the correct vote would have been. However, this time a vote of mine will be for a true Conservative, [cont.] Answered by vanrynpa - Tue Jul 17 11:02:55 2007 Why do so many people who eat fish call themselves vegetarian?
Q. A vegetarian does not eat dead animals. Fish are animals. Hence, fish is not 'vegetarian' food. It's not really open to interpretation... The word means what the word means. I do not intend to criticize people who eat fish. I just would really like to know why the insistence on using the word? It certainly causes a lot of problems for vegetarians (and fish!). What's the benefit to a fish-eater of calling him- or herself a vegetarian? Thanks! Adalicia, Vicky and friends - fish are animals. Vegetarians don't eat animals. It is very simple. Of course, people are free to eat whatever they like, but eating fish and calling yourself a vegetarian is like having an apple and insisting it is an orange. What's the benefit? Many religions around the world have non-meat fasts that allow them to eat fish. I think this is the reason people get confused. I just tell them that they are a Pescetarian and not a vegetarian.
